Hand Injury Compensation Case Study
Keith
Keith suffered a serious injury to his dominant hand at work, when he slipped and fell against some unguarded machinery. Despite extensive treatment, including surgery, it became apparent that he would not be able to return to his previous job. This had a devastating financial effect, not least because Keith had a large mortgage, and his wife was a full-time mother to their 2 small children.
He contacted a claims company after seeing their advertisement on the television. They referred him to their "Panel Solicitor" in another part of the country. Keith said:
"The whole experience was awful. I rarely got to speak to the Solicitor, only to his secretary who kept saying ‘these things take time’. I was unable to work, and all I had coming in was my sick pay. I was having to rely on family and friends to help me out. I wrote to the Solicitors telling them about my financial situation, but they responded that they were doing everything they could."
Unhappy with the service he was receiving, Keith called us. We contacted his Solicitors and took over conduct of his claim. We obtained an interim payment to assist with his immediate financial difficulties. After commissioning reports from medical and employment experts, his claim settled for £105,000. His claim settlement included the cost of retraining. We were delighted when Keith contacted us following his retraining to confirm that he had quickly found a job utilizing his new skills – and on a higher salary than before!
